So last week I'm on my way out of the office in Nijmegen during a blistering heat wave (got up to 30C!) and am saying farewell to a colleague. He says something about the heat, and I point out that this time of year it doesn't even get *down* to 30C at home. He is incredulous.

Knowing that the forecast for Phoenix is at least 45C for the day, I suggest that he fire up weather.com and have a look. He agrees, goes to his desktop Dell, and double-punches IE. A while later he types in 'www.weather.com' and it instantly blue-screens. I laugh. He doesn't.

Instead, he picks up the telephone and calls IT to have them come and take down the diagnostic screen data. This appears to be SOP.

I was still laughing when I got off the plane in Phoenix at 20:00 and stepped into 41C. Believe it or not, it felt *good*!

And well he should be. We're used to our summers being cold and rainy, you know that

BTW, I still owe you *at least* a cold beer for that motherboard.

When I was last in Australia, in 1997, 40C and I was wearing a suite. No problems, and no heat felt.

Just a side issue, go to a rugby or cricket game, and look what is the most common mascot for New Zealand. It isn't the kiwi

Tue, 25 Jun 2002 at 22:27 GMT, peering quizzically at his shoes,

Crap, I failed on the second question and only got 5/6. If I were a sheep, I'd headbutt more humans.
