So last week I'm on my way out of the office in Nijmegen during a blistering heat wave (got up to 30C!) and am saying farewell to a colleague. He says something about the heat, and I point out that this time of year it doesn't even get *down* to 30C at home. He is incredulous.
Knowing that the forecast for Phoenix is at least 45C for the day, I suggest that he fire up weather.com and have a look. He agrees, goes to his desktop Dell, and double-punches IE. A while later he types in 'www.weather.com' and it instantly blue-screens. I laugh. He doesn't.
Instead, he picks up the telephone and calls IT to have them come and take down the diagnostic screen data. This appears to be SOP.
I was still laughing when I got off the plane in Phoenix at 20:00 and stepped into 41C. Believe it or not, it felt *good*!
