Hi, I have been playing with Linux (Mandrake) for a week weeks now but I'm a bit stumped about something.
At work I'd like to dual boot linux with my current win98 setup, that's the easy bit....
We have a NT4 box that administers a domain and I log into it from my win98 machine. My account on the NT box has admin privileges so I can add users, change groups etc etc..blah blah... There's some WIN only apps on the NT box that are used by other users so that box gets left alone, if you know what I mean. It's really just full of shared folders for the users in the compnay (50-60 or so divided up into various groups, Admin, Accounts, etc etc blah blah) all with different permissions on the various shared folders plus printer groups.
Now, what I want to do is use Mandrake to log into the NT machine to allow me access to all shared folders and printer resources under the domain. I've read a bit about SAMBA and how it can be used as a PDC but what about the other way?, allowing a linux workstation access to NT domain resources?
If I can set up SAMBA to allow me access to the various shares on the NT box do I have to do them all individually or can I use some sort of Network neighbourhood type browser to discover any shares that exist on the NT box and mount them on-the-fly? (as they get changed around occasionally)
I want to use Evolution to access our Cobalt Qube external mail server (just POP and SMTP) and that doesn't seem to be a problem at all but we use MS Postoffice I'm pretty sure for our internal mail, any dramas there?
I intend to maybe use VNC to access the NT box direct from my workstation but would really like to be able to access the various shares and printers straight from the Linux desktop.
Any help really appreciated as I'm new and this is probably really simple stuff to a linux guru anyway.
