Hi, I tried my best to figure this out on my own but I'm not getting anywhere.

Ok, so i bought a walmart pc with lindows on it, worked with it for a couple days, and i was getting sound out of the speakers. Therefore my speakers and sound card are both working.

Then I got rid of lindows and installed redhat. Now there's no sound. So I said to myself, 'maybe redhat doesn't come with the necessary sound card driver'.

So I clicked on the start button and on the menu I went to:

System Settings >> Soundcard Detection

Then a dialog box popped up and gave me the following info...

Vendor: VIA Technologies Model: VT8233 AC97 Audio Controller Module: via82cxxx_audio

below that info was a button reading 'Play test sound' which I clicked, and still got no sound.

From the info, it seems that the system detects my card, and it's driver... what am I missing here? What should I try next?

Thanks yall.

hello man

I have the same problem. I guess you have to install alsa-drivers from http://www.alsa-project.org/ Unfortunately I lost my patience while trying to do it. My computer has no net connection and rpm complained about some conflicts. Carrying rpms in my backbag from work to home isn't so funny.
