Old motherboard died, so i got an XP 1600+ and motherboard from Maplin for £150.

1) Booted into Linux - Everything worked.

2) Booted into ME - Everything worked.

3) Booted into XP. Blue screen before the Splash screen appeared. Booted into XP safe mode. Blue screen before the Splash screen appeared. Had to bloody reinstall the OS, and patches to get the ruddy thing to work again. I even had to reinstall the NIC driver. Why I ask you, why?? What a load of crap.

Why you ask. Simple really; winXP is an M$ product. It is designed to muck you over and get you to beg for a fix.

(yes, just like the fix you get on the corner in the bad part of town)

Er, doesn't that work out to almost $300 USD? I hope you got more than just a motherboard for that kind of money. I just bought a m'board, Duron 950 chip and 256MB of DDR RAM for half that!

Error Log for Tue, 18 Jun 2002 11:37:55 -0400: segfault in module 'Craig Wilkie' - dump details are as follows...

When you say 'everything worked', did you mean that everything was able to be recognized and setup correctly? I'm assuming so, because no installed OS that I know of can just be transferred to basically a completely different system and 'just work'.

Regardless, ME is still a pile of crap.

Any version of NT would probably give you the same result.

So what's wrong with that? That's always been my modus operendi, I just deal with the consequences later.

I'm considering installing another vid card in order to make this system two headed. You think I'm gonna be smart and check with anyone or read up on how to do it first?

Hell no! I'm gonna jump in head-first screwdrivers a-blazin' and then I'll come whining back to the group begging for help like the little bitch I am when I can't figure it out.

Then there is that whole chicken vs egg situation, search the internet to find out how to replace your motherboard, which does not work. Hmmm.
