I'm using MySQL version 3.23.52 installed on linux SuSE 8.1
ERROR 1036: Table 'user' is read only mysql>
why this user is read only and how can I change it ?

The user is not read-only, I suspect that you have misplaced the permissions on the MySQL data directory. Check it out.

You didnt mention what user you are running this as ? If your running it as mysql-root then there could be a problem in your setup. Otherwise you might be a normal user with no permisions to grant perms to others and hence the failure, please give more info

I've loggged in as root. But anyway now is working. There was a problem with permissions at mysql folder under /var/lib/mysql
