'Microsoft said Monday that a 'serious vulnerability' in its flagship Web server software used by computers running more than 6 million sites could allow hackers and online vandals to take control of the computers'

or as the Toyota ad says, 'bugger!'

They are just continuing on from last year. IIS was the worst app for security bugs in 2000 and looks like it will hold its place in 2001. Companies that use IIS for e-commerce applications deserve what they get. They have had plenty of warnings.

In otherwords, its not a security concern, but an 'Accessibility Feature'

I have no sympathy for them either. Choose the cheaper option, but pay for it dearly later on. Gee, let me see, how many security problems, over the last year have I seen from the iPlanet group, software used on SUN Servers? bugger all!

As someone noted a while back: It's a feature, not a vulnerability. The new features name: High Accessibility

This renaming of new vulnerabilities as old updates is becoming farcical.

Check this out: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp? url=/technet/se... bulletin/MS00-077.asp

Microsoft fixes a vulnerability in June this year. Because it is similar to a vulnerability in October 2000 they don't even issue a 2001 security bulletin but instead name it MS00-077.

Which will appear all over ZDnet, this group etc., as the Eric Fs and Chads declare Microsoft's wonderful improvement...

Seems you are right. Their latest security bulletin describes 3 separate security bugs in different apps. They are really desparate to 'improve' their security image. .net relies upon it. The latter part of this year is going to be really interesting. I think XP take up will be similar to W2K, the xbox will be a failure and .net will fail to get off the starting block. Dump those shares now while they are only 40% down on their high.
