I have installed on a brand new machine, Madrake 91. I have now to install Window.. Impossible to installe Windows anymore !!!!

I have used Fdisk /mbr -> seems to be OK... When I display the info with Fdisk, it display partition non-Dos Erase Non DOS partition -> can't because of Logical drive.. -> Dispaly logical drive : No logical drives !!

So, the situation is a bit stuck !!

- Has anybody a trick for this ??

Thanks in advance

Well, Windows ( and yes this is Window's fault) likes to be on a primary partition. You have not told us how you partitioned your disk when you installed mandrake. If you told mandrake to use all of the disk, then there is no room to install windows.

Also installing windows after Mandrake will mean you will then have to try to recover being able to boot to Linux aftr you install windows.

Anyway, post what the content of your disk is now.

inless you want to get a 3rd party utility and try to create an active primary partition you should delete everything and start over

from linux, you can run fdisk and delete everything

or else go to www.bootdisk.com and get aefdisk.exe and copy it to a boor floppy then run aefdisk /delall now you can run fdisk and create your partitions create an active primary for windows then a logical for linux

format and install windows on your active primary partition etc...

Hi Guys, thanks for your answers.....

I don't want to keep anything form Linux on this hard disk... I want to reinstalled windows on this machine from scratch!!! and remove completely Linux..

I have no partion at all -> Linux occupied the total hard disk !!!

Philo, I have already tried to use FDISK, but whitout any success.. (with a a bootable win98 fdisk !!) Is there anything else to do ? than a fdisk /mbr ??

I will try with a fdik from Win2k, ... on your www.bootdisk.com website...

you might try to re-run the mandrake installer (from CD, i guess), and to delete any partitions from there. maybe you'll need to run it in expert mode.

THanks for the trick !! Effectively, that I need to do !!

As 'expert mode', I asked for deleting everything.... come back to dos, fdisk / mbr then That is OK

Thanks again...
