Install New Disk

I recently installed Suse 8.2. I can see that I am going to run out of diskspace soon. Can someone briefly describe how I go about adding a new disk?

Obviously, I install it, and run the manufacturer's setup utility, do any BIOS settings, etc.

But then do I boot from the original hda and run a linux utility to format it? Then I guess I edit /etc/fstab....

I would appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
