but this is a nasty bug in X (I'm wondering how we missed it, but now that we know about it, it'll get fixed in a timely fashion).

I'm actually glad this sort of thing happened. It shows how powerful choice is!
Imagine if there was only one web browser available for X and it was integrated into X. How would you work around this problem? You really only have two choices in the matter:
1. Don't use X until the vendor/writers fix it. 2. Use X at your own risk until a patch is released.
But, there are numerous web browsers for Linux, (and Moz is not built into X) so you now have another option:
3. Don't use Mozilla and continue to use X!
Choice is good. It gives you an 'out' when something does break!
