I'm sure you couldn't be referring to me because I never complained that Linux is too windows-like.

He could've been running DOS, too. But if something happened to the embedded program running him, he would've come to a screeching halt with C:ROBOT> blinking in both eyes.

Well, duh. If you read only the title and not the message, how the hell do you expect to know what someone is talking about?

I read the message, but you can't tell the difference between gnome and Linux as a whole. You do NOT and seem incapable of considering the wide variety of other desktop in a Linux Usability discution. It is no wonder why you have trouble understanding the realtionships between two thoughts. My points are (allways ignored to maintain ignorance) 1: Gnome is NOT the most Windows like desktop 2: making a *desktop more widows like is NOT making *Linux* more windows like. It is adding windows like functioality to Linux. This ia ADDING functioality to make Linux more windows like, one would need to remove many of Linux's functionality (I know this would be a god send to you) such as the ability to PICK the desktop that best for you. Gnome is NOT the most Windows like desktop, if you want a Windows like desktop use KDE. Gnome is more *ADVANCED* user friendly. But advanced users are STILL users. If Gnome want to make a desktop more friendly desktop for the *ADVANCED* user. That means it is less NOVICE user freindly. You seem to think that Gnome needs to change to be tailored for Novice users. I say they do not need to. There are other desktops for that.

Windows caters to novice users while alianating at least *SOME* advanced users

Linux has desktops for *BOTH* advance and novice users. Meaning that Linux, as a whole, is user friendly to a wider number of users

GNOME does NOT equal Linux. Gnome is only one choice out of *MANY* Linux desktos. Even Sun was smart enough to call it a 'GNOME usability study' .

The embeded market is going to Linux because it is NOT windows like.

Robotices are going to Linux because Linux is NOT windows like.

you have not supported any claim that Linux (as a whole) needs to become more windows like. (you *seem* to be saying that that is the only way to break MS's monopoly) The fact is, only one of two desktops (Only one part of Linux as a whole) need to be windows like for those people that can't deal with anything but a windows desktop.

In short Linux can have Both a windows like and a non-windows like desktop. Gnome is NOT the most Windows like desktop and does NOT pretend to be. If you want to have a windows like desktop *PICK a desktop that aims to BE a windows like desktop*.
