'As part of a larger plan to spread the use of the Linux operating system throughout its retail stores, Burlington Coat Factory has begun a two-year effort to switch over to Linux-based point-of-sale terminals.'

'The clothing retailer, which operates nearly 300 stores, will run Linux on all the terminals in its new stores, and expects to finish migrating older stores' terminals to Linux in the next couple of years. The company is replacing NCR registers that run on Intel 286 and 386 chips.'

'We think Linux is a good thing,' said Mike Prince, Bur-lington vice president and CIO. 'It's reliable, and it's easy to maintain.'

'Prince said the Linux terminals cost 25 percent less than the comparable systems Burlington considered and that he 'wouldn't be surprised' by a similar level of operating cost savings. Unlike Windows NT systems, the Linux system will not require Burlington to pay licensing or maintenance fees on the 4,500 terminals now in place in its stores.'

May I suggest you get the facts before you post?

<snip!>

:> I had already posted a 'oops I didn't fully read the link sorry for :> mistake' message within 5 seconds of the first message.

: That does not excuse your behaver. It is quite possible that your follow : up was NOT available at the time I posted. Even if it was, you could not : even read the single post and article your were responding to, while : expecting me to not only read the article I was responding to but the NEXT : one as well! The apology came too late.

If one posts an article in error and realizes it seconds later, wouldn't the smarter response be to simply cancel the article rather than make *another* post that says: 'sorry about that, just ignore my last post'.

Of course, an even better solution would be to give it a good re-read and not post it in the first place if there's some trouble with it.

And avoiding posting articles that will get one flamed is always a good idea too.

I also find it strange that he claimed that he had not 'fully' read the article before posting. What did he do stop reading the article, post then go back to the article?
