I am (still!) in the process of upgrading from RH 6.2 (2.2.x kernel) to RH 7.3 (2.4.x kernel). I have straightened out just about everything else (slightly strange NIC is working, INND is behaving, DNS, Apache, and PostgreSQL are all working). The only remaining major problem is my 4-port UART (serial) card. The 2.4 kernel sees it *but* things are not working well. I need it for both ifmail (Linux FidoNet package) and using minicom to talk to the serial port console on another machine.

I think there are either interrupt problems and/or issues with the fact that this board does NOT support CTS/RTS and both minicom and ifmail really want CTS/RTS. I am getting by under RH 6.2.

I am wondering if anyone else has managed to get minicom and ifmail working with a 2.4 kernel using one of these old boards.

Otherwise I might just need to get a new multi-port serial card. I need something simple and straight forwarded. Preferably something well supported with both a 2.2 or a 2.4 kernel.

I've been using minicom on Boca 1008 board (same board with eight ports) and it works fine talking to serial devices without rts/cts. I'm using Debian 3.0 with 2.4.18 but it's been working since Caldera 1.1 with a 2.0 kernel.

To not use rts/cts in minicom, you need to go to the serial configure screen (ctl-a o), serial port setup, and turn off hardware flow control. I don't know about ifmail.

Also, when I set up Debian with this board I had to use setserial to configure the IO and IRQ for the Boca ports, and I had to create some additional ttyS devices using mknod. The machine is at the office and turned off now so I can't give you more detail than that. Sorry.
