Linux Under Attack Another Stage To Cross

I see it as part of the growth process of Linux based technology but it is really annoying when it happens to you. So if this applies to you there is solution.

The problem from Ryan Naraine blog on ZDNet:

The U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) has issued a warning for what it calls “active attacks” against Linux-based computing infrastructures using compromised SSH keys.

The explanation how to solve the attack is there too so read the post.

Anyway it can be a nice challenge to close the entrance door for such attacks in the future as Linux would just draw more attention in the future. More attention means also more attacks so let’s be ready.

Taking Part In The Linux Kernel Development Process

Michael Dolan recommends reading the book that was published by the Linux Foundation that guides developers how they can participate in Linux kernel development and the process for contributing.

Thinking about it I think I might give it a try if I’ll have to patience to read the instruction book of course as there are several things I really think I can do.

I’m not sure about many aspiring hacker though as being part of the system might ruin all the fun, but it is certainly a great way to utilize some of the talents of people in a constructive way.

VMware Joins The Linux Foundation

Cloud computing is certainly the focus of many of Linux based systems and the addition of Vmware to the Linux foundation is really good news for the people that work with these systems.

There is a constant need for new tools especially as far as visualization is concerned so Vmware is certainly improving the lives of many of us by this move.

I agree with Gerrit Huizenga that this wider and stronger base would enable creating much more complex solutions and take things to the next level.

Having Problem With Apple Movie Trailers?

I’ve been having problems with viewing Apple movie trailers on Linux recently and trying to solve all the problems I could think of I came across this post  and got some solutions.

I don’t know yet but I think that the plugs ins versions can be the key but anyway the solution of opening page source on the error message and copying the url that ends with mov and posting it into a new tab works beautifully.

I’ll try some of the other suggestions that I’ve found on the comments to the post but if you’re experiencing the same problem try this way as it really works.

Microsoft Intel And The War Against The XO Laptop

After seeing that number of the comments on the post I’ve decided that I better respond with a discussion of my own.

It is only natural for companies to try and prevent a situation that they are left out of a major project, it is basic politics.

The article is really intense and yes I gues Negrophnte was naive but even with the severe obstacles that the project faced it is still a great success, if we think about t

“I had wildly underestimated,” says Negroponte, “the degree to which commercial entities will go to disrupt a humanitarian project.”

I guess he has learned a lot about human nature since. It is not even the desire for profits through the project it is just the need to be at the center of the stage and that everything that anyone else receives is always the result of the great companies coming to the rescues and never ever enabling the links of dependency to be freed.

A more realistic person would have known that Microsoft and Intel don’t care what people have it is the desire that they get it through them and most importantly that they remember to say thank you in a well photographed ceremony.
