I am running a RH 7.1 system. It is set up as dual boot with two SCSI disks, Windows 2000 on /dev/sda and Linux on /dev/sdb. It currently uses lilo as boot loader. I have finally got around to thinking about upgrading to or installing RH 9. I have extensive experience with both going back to RH 4.1, but I haven't done an upgrade since RH 7.3.
Are there any potential problems? Am I likely to have problems with the dual boot mechanism, particularly if I shift to using grub? I would rather not reinstall Windows 2000 since that would involve first installing Windows 98 and then upgrading to 2000 plus lots of additional

The upgrade from 7.1 to 9 might be a little brutal, and folks often advise 'clean install' when going from one major release number to another, i.e., 7 to 8. I've upgraded on one machine from 7.0 to 7.1 to 7.2 to 7.3 which no problem.
But I usually 'migrate' from one level to another, creating a new bootable partition for the new level, trying it out, while still maintaining normal operation on the old level. As I become more comfortable with the new level, and get it fully up to speed with applications, etc., I finally abandon the old level. (And I have /home, /opt, and /var/spool/mail on separate partitions which can be mounted in either old or new installations.
I have had no problems booting Win2k with grub, having purchased a laptop with Win2k on it, shrinking the FAT32 Win partition with Partition Magic, and putting Linux on it.

I've done the same, installing RH7.3, but I used fips instead to resize the Windows partition. I just would like to be reassured that upgrading to RH9 or reinstalling and switching to grub from lilo won't make any difference.

I'm in the same situation: upgraded from WinNT 3.51 to 2000 Pro, so I have the upgrade CD. You can boot with it and start an install. Like you said, it'll just prompt you to insert the version from which you upgraded, then it takes off normally.
Found out installing it under VMWare this weekend on my Linux box.
