Don't forget Gnome and KDE also give you a development framework. Very likely the graphical apps you use are made with those development frameworks.. If you're enthralled with The Gimp, Galeon, Gaim, Evolution, XChat, Pan, Gnumeric, Abiword, MrProject, Glade, GThumb, Eog ... you should also be enthralled with Gnome. After all, would those applications have been possible if the developers only had XForms? Heck, even irssi uses a gnome library (glib)

IMAP and SMTP works just fine when connecting Evolution to a Domino R5 server. Just like they do with outlook [express] or any other standard mail client, actually.

Web client. iNotes access (which is indeed available as a plugin for outlook, and which I suspect you were thinking of but didn't actually specify). Then again, that's not using Evolution.

Of course. But you /can/ indeed connect Evolution to a Domino server, quite contrary to what you originally claimed.

As for the why, I have no idea, but our major client moved from HP OpenMail to Lotus Notes[1], and they are /only/ using it for email. Notable exceptions are a db I wrote for them and some trials with scheduling and resource booking. Main reason was, and still is, to get a common email client over a large number of administrations tho.

It's a real pity they do not take full advantage of the (quite expensive) system they have purchased and are (quite expensively) putting in a lot of effort to maintain, only to use for email.
